When all else fails (including you), act like the accident involved was meant to happen.
Punctuation goes a long way in reframing the narrative
I’ve been running into a problem recently, one that’s been kind of hidden in plain sight for anyone who follows the site regularly, and is paying close enough attention to look and see it hidden in plain sight. I say that will only a minuscule level of sarcastic coyness, in the sense that I’m still attempting to be creative while confronting the realism of the situation in terms of what I’m outputting vs what’s being absorbed….I’m getting ahead of myself here. Let’s rewind a bit…and to wit; creating good habits is important, because when things start to go to shit, you know what to fall back on at least. I say that more in the acknowledgement of struggling to maintain interest related to video games as of late, both from a playing and writing perspective, both activities have been extraordinarily diminished in the past week due to poor mood, and that’s a rough shake.
For me it’s always a multi-level concern whenever I break down issues. Bottom level for me with this is, aw crap, I’m teetering on the edge of not posting an article everyday, I’m failing a personal challenge I put myself to. Second level is, not only am I not creating for an audience, but I’m not intrigued or even pleased with two of my favorite pursuits, third level being, well…how the hell am I going to cheer myself up or stabilize my mood when I don’t want to create or play? That’s a difficult scenario, and I’m sure plenty can relate on some level. That’s the thing: I’ve been in this scenario before, as I’ve been writing online for decades, basically, even if my earlier stuff was just blog posts on Myspace, but writing is writing, even if the platform is micro-sized. I’ve been doing freelance work on commercial sites since 2007, for any of you semantic driven maniacs reading, so not far off if that is the standard, but the point stands…this is not my first rodeo.
That leaves me with very little recourse but to just…force myself to do this, something I’ve referred to as “getting in position”, as it were, cause if you’ve put yourself into the physical space of something you’ve done on a regular basis, you will likely get into the head space as well, and everything should follow suit. Kind of…I think there was an overlooked sense of spirit that was not included in the estimation, and that is a difficult idea to posit, as the idea of “spirit” is one beyond science, and therefore, merely a conjecture on my part as to how (spirit) it is incorporated into the equation.
I’m thinking of keeping this short, as to not torture anyone who has had the ardent gumption to give this post a shot, and has even read up to this point, but alas, unlike my write up the other day where I stumbled upon a fun idea, or my post yesterday where I went in with some kind of strangulated point worthy of mention, or even the post where I angrily detailed my distaste of the hubris of humanity, and the apathy that can follow suit, I largely have nothing today. I’m afraid there are just no more rabbits to pull out of this creative hat at the moment.
I guess to end this on some kind of gaming related note, it was crazy to read Red Dead Redemption 2 has become the 6th best selling video game of all time, selling 77 million copies to date, and beating out Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow to earn it’s place right outside the top five, being beaten only by Mario Kart 8/Deluxe, Ark: Survival Evolved (lol wut), Wii Sports, Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft. In spite of putting more than 100 hours into the title myself, I was always so constantly sidetracked, I could never bring myself to get to the end of the story missions, with me always joking RDR2’s working title was probably Sidequests: The Game. I’ll get there eventually, I reckon…someday.
Today is not that day, however.
