Looking forward to more pain in Nightreign

A new Elden Ring game is upon us.

What launch day servers will look like when players start logging in

After spending a significant amount of time with Doom: The Dark Ages in the past two weeks, and having thoroughly enjoyed what was on offer, warts and all, I am about ready to move on to greener grasses…or at least bloodier ones, as my next big project as I look to the horizon will be Elden Ring: Nightreign, which launches today. Though i’m usually there for most games at launch day, I won’t be joining in on the delightful amount of death that awaits me until a few days from now. Being mostly an online multiplayer oriented game, however, I’m not too peeved about waiting, as most big online games tend to be a bit messy within their launch window, with many having laggy sessions or disconnect issues, in some cases straight up crashing or not being able to connect at all, leading to some…err, “memorable” launches, to say the least.

Ah, the memories. What wacky fun Diablo 3’s launch was.

I wish the best to any of my fellow NightReign players in their endeavors during this time, and desire nothing but the most lag free, continuous and smooth gameplay experience while they suffer their untimely demises. Getting some glimpses at early reviews, it does seem like many agree that Nightreign is definitely an oddball, being the first FromSoftware title with an entire focus first on multiplayer (solo is still possible, mind you), as opposed to a side attraction to a much thicker, more enriching single player mode most players show up for, with a lot of reviewers citing that the single map available (for now) does get repetitive quickly, and that overall progress for character leveling development feels slightly underwhelming.

And when one is fighting mother fuckers like this on the regular, one will need all of the help they can god damn get

Speaking of which, in order to see the game in action so I had a better frame of reference to write from, I watched Youtuber OnlyWaifu stream Nightreign earlier, and the game looks and plays exactly like Elden Ring, which is a comfort to me, at the very least. I know some systems have certainly changed and will continue to do so, but considering how much time in the past year I put into getting the Platinum Trophy for the original Elden Ring, it’s nice to know my hard fought practice won’t completely go to waste.

Not to say I still won’t get wasted left and right….because of the mother fuckers, you see

I digress slightly from my excited rambling: I did choose that Diablo 3 pic mindfully, even though it’s always a joy to poke fun at Blizzard on the fly, as when I was watching OnlyWaifu stream, I got hardcore Diablo 2 vibes when I was watching her roll up on some beastly bastards with her three player crew. I’m well aware of just how different of a game Diablo 2 and Nightreign are from a fundamental standpoint, but there was this bizarre feeling of familiar nostalgia involved watching the session as they did run after run against hellish mobs, thwarting to their hearts content. As long as FromSoftware supports this game like they should, I have a feeling I’ll be seeing a lot of sleepless nights raging in the lands between alongside dudes and dudettes online with reckless abandon, just like the old Diablo 2 days of yore.

Till next time.
