Refreshing to see MGS3 hasn’t lost its charm in the Remake

Konami is obviously not afraid to monkey around with this remake

Silly puns aside, among the many trailers showed at Sony’s State of Play yesterday, a yearly event that showcases what PlayStation fans can look forward to in the next year coming to Sony’s platform, the new Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta trailer was shown, and it was a short but sweet affair.

Metal Gear Monkey?!?

As one would expect with doing the heavy lifting involving a remake, Konami made sure to do something of a greatest hits selection from the MGS3 remake, Delta, without going all in on every single one of our favorite moments. Using the new Unreal 5 engine to show the new high fidelity Delta has to offer, we got a glimpse of several members of the Cobra unit, including The End, one of gaming’s most legendary bosses.

The only boss in gaming history that’s possible to win by merely waiting two weeks for him to die of old age…talk about patience being a virtue

We also got glimpses of Snake’s duel with Ocelot, the fisticuffs match with Volgin, his epic motorcycle escape with Eva, and a lot more packed in to an astonishingly short two minute trailer. I’m not sure if it’s due to the time Konami has had to polish the title, or if I’m just more desperate for Metal Gear Solid content now more than even, but I feel as if the visuals have grown on me considerably since Delta was first showcases two years ago. The trailer highlights a lot of what was lost in the original muddiness of the PS2 graphics back in the day, and the new effects of the U5 engine does short work of making a lot of the jungle and outside environments pop off the screen.

In this picture, there are 47 people…none of them, can be seen.

Of course, we saw the Snake vs Monkey mini-game making a triumphant return, signifying that Konami isn’t leaving any content left behind, all but confirming that most of what MGS3: Subsistence was rocking will be brought forth in Delta. I’m guessing maybe some of the only elements that may have been left behind due to the *kind* of content they represent was the inclusion of both Metal Gear 1 and 2, though it would be a cool surprise if Konami went the extra mile and did include them just to cover their bases in including the entire package.

Kuwabara, Kuwabara…

Towards the end of the trailer, as if some kind of post-credits “treat” ala a Marvel film, we did get a glimpse of a scene outside, where Snake ended up using camo, more in line with how it was used in MGS4, aka Octocamo, which took effect in a more convincing manner after a second of Snake lying in the ground, thusly blending in with the ground. A soldier on patrol walked by, unable to spot Snake as a result. The framing of this scene, with both the gunfire off screen, the Octocamo, and the “and more…” which was alluded to shortly after, as if hinting at yet to be revealed gameplay elements, suggest Konami has yet to announce what could be the return of Metal Gear Online, which would obviously be a huge deal in mutliple ways, not in the least of which would be sweetening the overall package that is MGS3 Delta.

Snake’s disguise: the science guy…(BILL BILL BILL)

There was a ton of great games to comment on that were shown off during Sony’s State of Play, but it had been a hot minute since I had written about Metal Gear Solid, something I should do more of with a follow up article. In any case, the trailer is great, which I’ve included below if you wish to peep it yourself, and Delta is set to launch August 25th.

What a thrill….
